FBT – Day Two (Rooted and Grounded)

This is the second day of the #fbt series. and I am privilege to share with you another truth.

The core message of this series is to help us cultivate the fruits of the Spirit. Yesterday we lay the foundation of the journey which I wrote Here

Gal 5:22-23 introduces us to the fruit of the Spirit. it says
[22]But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Jesus said in Matthew 7:18
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

As we all know fruits don’t just appear, they are products that came about by nature of the trees on which they hung on.

Isn’t not amazing that the first fruit of the Spirit mentioned is love?

What is the life of a christian without love.

 Matthew 7:20
[20]Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

How does the world knows we are Christians? When we exhibit one of the fruits of the spirit which is love. We are the bibles most peoples read

If a Christian life doesn’t oozes love, it is hard for non believes to accept our message. It was love that compelled Christ to endure all the shame, torture and pain just to reconcilate us back to the father.

The first fruit of the Spirit to be cultivated and nurtured in the life of a believer is love. Without it every other fruits and even the gifts of the Spirit effectiveness in such a believer life will be negligence

Ephesians 3:17

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love.

How does Christ becomes alive and living in us? By being grounded and rooted in love.

The key words I took out from this scripture are: ” rooted, grounded and love”. Does this not paint an image of a tree on your mind?

I believe the Holy Spirit was very specific and intentional in using those adjectives to describe the attributes of the kind of love He want to bring forth in our lives with our cooperation.

Rooted and grounded does’nt sound cliché, it take deliberate act and will.

We become rooted in love when we came to Christ as the incorruptible seed of love is deposited in our spirit. We become rooted in love when we abide in him who loves us umconditionally. Our root take shape in Christ which is God, who is Love.
We are plugged in to the original and ultimate reservoir of love at salvation and thus we become rooted as such. The lines is securely connected, to draw from that source, we have to be grounded

The grounded aspect is where the real work is.

Being grounded connotes a deliberate act of will to allow the already rooted seed to grow. Not being a flickering personality wandering out and in absentmindedly out of God’s love seed. Just as salvation is free but God wont force anybody. Sure He will arrange opportunities but He won’t force. He is a perfect gentleman. Even the same way, He wont force the fruits of the Spirit to blossoms in your life without your cooperation.

How do we stay grounded in love that Christ may become visible in us and our daily lives? The answer to kept being watered by the Word and standing firm for love sake

Let us assume this analogy
A seed is sown into the ground in a rich lumus and fertile soil, it root shoots and reach down to sustain the growth of the seed. Growth activity commences and continues day and night, but unfortunately water is not supplied sufficiently over time. In an act of desperation, the plant is pulled up and planted in another part of the soil without understanding that the reason why the plant want growing well was not because of nutrients but lack of water. The pulling up and planting takes place severally over a few days, what do you think will happen to the plant?

Your guess is good as .mine: a dead plant.

We know water plays and important role in the growth of a plants, even so the word of God plays and important role in developing the fruits of Love by the HolySpirit with our cooperation.

What is this water? The word of God according to Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.

As we cultivate the habits of studying the word of God, we are watering the seed of love down in us by the HolySpirit and at the same partaking of divine nature of Love. The more we know him by his word, the more of his love nature that rubs on us.

I believe many issues and conflict will be averted if Love prevails.

Have a great day! 😁
Shalom!
